ACCA Manual D – Residential Duct System Design
In addition to the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) Manuals J and S, a Manual D Residential Duct Design installation is required per the Mechanical Section of the 2015 International Residential Code (IRC):
“M1601.1 Duct design. Duct systems serving heating, cooling and ventilation equipment shall be installed in accordance with the provisions of this section and ACCA Manual D, the appliance manufacturer’s installation instructions or other approved methods.”
Manual D is ACCA’s by-the-book methodology for determining duct sizing and installation. Good duct design is essential for balanced airflow, which determines in no small part your energy bills and home comfort.
Manual D provide a report with a schematic drawing of the duct system, overlaid onto your building plan.
